Books 6 and 7

6) Moloka'i by Alan Brennert: This book is about the banishment of people with leprosy to the Hawaiian island of Moloka'i in the late 1800's and well into the 1900s. I found the subject matter fascinating, as I didn't know a lot about leprosy, or even that people with leprosy were forced from their families to stay in these designated areas (despite that fact that as it turns out, the disease is not easily spread). The story follows the life of Rachel, who is taken from her family as a 6 year old and ends up spending most of her life on Moloka'i. I enjoyed seeing her character grow and change over time, although parts of the story dragged a little for me. The ending was very good, though.

7) Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by JK Rowling: The second book of the Harry Potter series. While this is my least favorite of the series, it's still a great book. It just seems like it's very similar to the first book; it doesn't try to progress the series further, if that makes sense. But I love when Dumbledore says "It is our choices, Harry, that show us who we truly are, far more than our abilities."
