Shiver by Maggie StiefvaterMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is your typical "girl falls for a werewolf" paranormal YA book. :) I really liked the beginning, got a little bored in the middle, but then loved loved loved the ending (really the last 1/3rd of the book was great). The middle was slightly boring because the author did a little bit of "grocery list"-format writing, which is to say it reads like "Then they went to the store. Then she did homework. Then they went to bed."
Nonetheless, I found Sam and Grace captivating characters, and I couldn't put the book down. I did get a little frustrated with their inability to come up with "solutions" to the werewolf problem a little sooner (I was very distracted for about half the book about why they didn't just move to Mexico, a question that did finally get answered, but why does it take Grace so long to think about how her own experiences might relate to the problem?).
At any rate, I'm very happy that this is the first in a series. Also, I think the cover of this book is gorgeous!
