The Name of the Wind by Patrick RothfussMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
This was a fantastic book. While it took me awhile to get really involved, I'm glad I stuck with it, because it got to be a book I couldn't put down.
I think it's maybe hard to get into at first because most of the story is told first-person by the "hero" himself, Kvothe. Because of this, Kvothe can at times come across as a bit conceited. Luckily, he does generally recognize his flaws, which helps the reader forgive him.
In the end, you just can't wait to read more about Kvothe. The story is a perfect mixture of action, the learning of magic, good friends and side characters, and romance. The whole story is extremely creative, and I was easily transported into this other world. In addition, the writing is beautiful, with many passages I just wanted to write down to read and savor for later.
I can't wait to read the next in the series!
