The Titan's Curse by Rick RiordanMy rating: 3 of 5 stars
So, I'm not sure how I feel about this series at this point. In some ways I really do enjoy reading the books. Percy and his friends are very likeable, there's a lot of action, and a good mix of humor.
But, it's very formulaic, and it still feels so young. I think if I were in middle school, I would absolutely love these books.
One of the big issues I have is that there is this whole "good" Olympians versus "bad" Titans theme... but I'm not sure how convinced I am that the "good" side is all that great? I mean, sure, the Titans' side seems pretty nasty, but Zeus certainly is no Dumbledore. And that's a big problem in this book, because the "good" side really doesn't seem worth fighting for- most of the time I wonder why the young heroes even bother. They hardly get rewarded for all their efforts.
I like the growing relationship between Percy and Annabeth, but they seem older than they are supposed to be- like I've said before, Percy really should have started off older from the beginning. They act more like they are 16 or 17, I think.
Overall, I like these books thus far, but they seem a bit "fluffy" to me.
