Dining Review: Matchbox

Yum! This cute bistro/wood-fired pizza restaurant in D.C. is a find, particularly with the dearth of restaurants near the Mall.

For lunch, we shared 6 mini burgers and a Fire and Smoke pizza. My husband normally doesn't like "mini burgers" but we both agreed these were delicious- piled high with thin crispy onion straws (we had to dig to find the little burgers underneath)- and cooked just right on what tasted like homemade mini buns with salted tops, there was honestly enough food to make a meal for the two of us. An impressive platter.

We followed up with a Fire and Smoke pizza, slightly charred by the fire in the ovens and covered with roasted red peppers, smoked gouda, and spicy hot sauce. It was maybe a little too spicy for me but very creative and tasty.

There was a huge line when we left (we had arrived around 12:15pm) so I'm glad we got there when we did. I'd certainly head back there if I'm in the area- and it's right next to the Gallery Place metro which is handy.

  1. I love that you guys share food. That's what I do with my mom and sister whenever we go out. I love the variety!
