Dark Lover by J.R. WardMy rating: 2 of 5 stars
I liked the first half of this book a lot. Good build-up of both the plot and the romance. And I liked Beth in the beginning. But then it kind of fell apart for me in the second half. It just got overly mushy and cloyingly romantic. Things were resolved too easily. While this book is in many ways a more "adult version of Twilight" than the Sookie Stackhouse series, I've realized that whereas teenagers can get away with being melodramatic and overly possessive, the same qualities are very unappealing in adults.
Also... umm, this is going to sound shallow, but a blind pale vampire with long black hair soooo does not turn me on. I pictured more of a Christian Bale type character and secretly shuddered anytime the long hair was mentioned.
While all in all it was a fun mindless read, I'm not sure I'll read any more in the series.
