Sunday Meditation: Rachel Hadas

This seemed like an appropriate poem for the day, given the rapidly approaching end of summer- time sure has gone fast lately....

Snake
by Rachel Hadas

Ends: of summer; time in the country; time
before departures. Time
tapers to a snake that slides invisibly
off into the long grass of the world,
though such a narrowed notion fails to scratch
the itch lodged in between
impatiently waiting for something new to happen
and clinging to what, having
already happened, slithers
off into the brush without a sound.

  1. Okay- this poem- I understand and I like a lot.

  2. I love this poem. I've been in a serpentine state of mind with my children. I am excited to see their futures unfold...but I'm also mourning as time is slithering away from me.
