Kevin's grandpa was apparently quite into photography for awhile, and he passed down some really neat lenses down to Kevin. Which is nice because I really like playing with different lenses and trying to get better photos, but it's expensive to buy lenses, so this way I can try out a couple of new ones. The 50mm is an old lens- not auto-focus- which makes it pretty hard to get a good shot, but it's great to have a lens that can take better photos in low light, which I always struggle with (at some point, I'd love to invest in something like this lens, but for now, I'm happy to work on getting better with this wonderful family lens).
It lets you take neat shots like this:
Anyway, I'd mostly like to get better photos of Nora inside, which is always tricky. Kevin took this one with the 50mm lens:
That was the best of the ones we took, but you can tell that the aperture was set very wide to let enough light into the camera, so it's very focused on one point in the picture- a tricky thing to focus manually.
I took a couple of other ones downstairs but you can tell my ISO is a little too high, resulting in grainy photos (the subject matter is adorable though):
My favorites that I took were of Nora in her new reading chair she got for Christmas- she likes sitting here and reading all her books. The chair is so cute! I would recommend it- they have all different colors.
Toddlers reading books are the best. Though Nora for some reason always reads them back to front. I guess it's easier to flip pages that way or something? Either way she spends a lot of time "reading" these days and it's very cute!

So cute! Those are great photos! Working without an autofocus is tough. My eyes are terrible, I'd never get anything in focus. And I kinda like the dark grainy ones - it's a nice effect.
ReplyDeleteThanks, that means a lot coming from you- I always admire your photography. If you want to pass on any tips, I'd love to get better!
