1) Kevin's schedule. So far, residency has not been too bad. That's because Kevin has largely been on Emergency Medicine so far, which is set shift hours (8 or 10 hour shifts usually). That means he's actually been home a decent amount (which makes me hopeful for the future). However, even though he is an EM resident, they still have to rotate through other services (like internal medicine, ob-gyn, surgery, etc). Those ones don't have very good hours, and not many days off. He is just starting a slew of these rotations (from now through Christmas) and I think it's going to be rough. He also won't get Halloween, Thanksgiving, or most of Christmas Eve/Christmas off. Not unexpected, but still hard, for both of us (and for Nora). We had even come up with a killer family Halloween costume idea and now we won't get to use it (maybe we'll dress up and take a picture for posterity anyway!).
2) It's looking likely that I'll be going to a conference in New Zealand in January. I've always wanted to go to this country and I'm so excited to get the chance, but I'll be gone ~11 days- by far the longest I've ever been away from Nora (probably I've been gone 6 nights before). I'm already worried about how much I'll miss her (I'll miss Kevin too of course but he'll be working a lot while I'm gone! Grandparents are awesome though and I know Nora will have people looking out for her).
3) This happened today:
Big girl bed! Nora was about 3 seconds away from falling out of her crib after climbing the rail during "nap" today so we hesitantly made the switch. (Nap is in quotations because girlfriend has decided naps are not for her the last two days. Argh! I'm blaming it on her new tooth popping through). Anyway, it could be ugly when she decides to stay up all hours playing with toys, but at least she was so tired from no nap that this was the picture 2 minutes after bedtime:
We'll see how long it lasts! I might be putting that other side up again in a week, lol.
4) I'm so sad about the devastation in my home state. We were very fortunate and had no flooding, even though our area has seen about 14-15" of rain in the last 5 days. I didn't go into work (in Boulder) on Thursday or Friday because the whole city was shut down. Kevin's poor cousin lost basically everything she owns when the flood waters filled her basement apartment 3 feet deep with water. :( And it will be months and months before roads are rebuilt and the mud is cleaned up. It's just so so sad. My thoughts are with those who lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods.
In much lighter news, though, at our house, it basically just looked like this for 5 days straight (a lot for sunshine-loving Coloradoans):
Nora did get to wear her cute froggy rain coat which I thought she would never get a chance to wear (since it almost never rains longer than 20 minutes in Colorado much less a week):
5) Nora has terrible awful no good terrible two moments on occasion (especially early this last week when she came down with croup and wasn't feeling good), but for the most part, she is a kick in the pants these days. She just comes up with the funniest stuff. Here are some cute photos!
She *loves* her doll stroller and pushing "Foxy" around (I think he's actually a deer, but he could pass as a fox. I'm not sure why she wanted to wear her bike helmet. Fashionable, though!):
This one makes me laugh. First, she has her glasses on upside down. Also, that water she got when my mom took her to the zoo. She calls it her "alligator water" (understandably).
This one is from earlier in the summer with my brother and his wife. Nora just loves them (as do I)! She had the best time when they were here.
Have I mentioned how much this girl likes her corn on the cob? She gets like every last kernel off of it (and she likes to dip it in ketchup. Don't judge).
